Rick Perry’s stadium idiocy

The response

So, Rick Perry, the for-the-time-being governor of the once great state of Texas had his little rally, despite the obvious violation of law, the ignorance of scripture and protests by:

Freedom From Religion Foundation

those wacky Phelpses

and others:

The faithful filled approximately 30k out of 71.5k seats (roughly 42%). Not bad for a cynical & illegal grab for attention.

Perry advertised for this event as Governor of Texas (wearing your military uniform to promote anything outside of the military is illegal, so why does Perry think he is okay to wear his “governor” uniform while advertising this event?) wrote this in the advert:

“Given the trials that beset our nation and world, from the global economic downturn to natural disasters, the lingering danger of terrorism and continued debasement of our culture, I believe it is time to convene the leaders from each of our United States in a day of prayer and fasting,”

There are several things here that should make you ponder. Here are two:

  • “continued debasement of our culture” – If I’m not mistaken, this is the reason that airplanes were flown into the WTC. As kids on the playground would say, “It takes one to know one”.
  • Fasting – Does he really know what he is saying? His own bible shows that people who fast have given up and have gone crazy. And, it doesn’t work (see the next section on fasting)

Fasting (This is the next section on fasting)

Perry quoted from the book of Joel (old testament – not to be taken literally by xtians, since it was written by those jewz, unlike the new testament which was written by xtians about…a…jew) and said that he wanted to emulate the actions in that story to, “pray for a historic breakthrough for our country and a renewed sense of moral purpose” through fasting and prayer. Well, let me partake in cherry picking from the bible as all xtians do.

Turn to Jeremiah 14 in your books. “Not that one, grandma, the first one. The origional fatter one!”

To set the stage, 4-7 says:

4Because the ground is chapt, for there was no rain in the earth, the plowmen were ashamed, they covered their heads.

5Yea, the hind also calved in the field, and forsook it, because there was no grass.

6And the wild asses did stand in the high places, they snuffed up the wind like dragons; their eyes did fail, because there was no grass.

7O LORD, though our iniquities testify against us, do thou it for thy name’s sake: for our backslidings are many; we have sinned against thee.”

Not unlike current conditions in Texas.

The people entreated on their lord thusly”

8O the hope of Israel, the saviour thereof in time of trouble, why shouldest thou be as a stranger in the land, and as a wayfaring man that turneth aside to tarry for a night?

In other words, “why the fuck did you let the weather patterns turn our state into kindling?”

To which this god answered:

11…Pray not for this people for their good.

12When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and an oblation, I will not accept them: but I will consume them by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence.

18If I go forth into the field, then behold the slain with the sword! and if I enter into the city, then behold them that are sick with famine!

This guy’s a dick! But, then again, so is gov Perry.

If we take the bible as written as about half of the modern xtians do, then this, obviously is a story about some weak leader who, over 2,000 years ago, needed to come up with a story to explain the weather and its adverse effects on the crops. There’s nothing wrong with that approach (see Santa Claus, The Tooth Fairy, et. al.), except that you are lying to people.

If we take the bible as allegory as the other half of modern xtians, then someone is telling a lie to get a point across. My linking (allegorically) the land of the besieged from the story to the land of the besieged in modern Texas, USA should demonstrate that if there were a god who dealt in the petty things that humans do, then he could give a shit about the weather conditions in the hill country. My point is that the weather is shitty and will stay that way until the weather cycle changes – with or without a supreme being.

If you choose to think that there is an omnipotent power somewhere throwing levers to make a difference, then he is a dick...Or else, he is making someone else have good weather and has to find someplace to put the bad weather, and why not over Texas.

As for the “power of prayer” – Despite the repeated clinical trials which have consistently held that prayer does not work (see The STEP project), Perry continues to cynically prey on the superstitious, fluffing himself and puffing our his chest as the righteous xtian to lead the nation. And he has plenty of other fluffed politicians to compete against. Michelle “my gay husband and I fostered a billion children because he can’t get it up with me even if my finger is up his ass” Bachman currently has the conservatives in her crotch, even though Mitt “I look good in my magic jammies” Romney thinks he can scoop them out. He has a chore, as there’s likely not much lubrication in her nethers.

But Perry will likely continue to cynically push his viewpoint on prayer (see https://330m.wordpress.com/2011/05/10/praying-for-rain/).

So, if you want rain, wait for the weather patterns to change. If they don’t, then move. There is no supreme being who is interested in the daily trials of we humans. Get over yourselves.
